Crown Point Junior Music Academy
Monday Morning Memo
10/22-10/26
As we are now ready to turn the corner and get back to routine and structure, we will start off with some PD/PLC time this week and next. This full-day release is time to learn from each other by planning for and creating lessons and formative assessments. As a reminder, according to our snapshot data sweep that I shared with you, Critical Concept/Proficiency Scale formative assessments are essential and need to be implemented on a regular basis. I will continue to observe for and collect formative assessments as well as the data derived from the assessments. As I come into your classrooms for observations, please be prepared to share with me your assessments on a regular basis.
Below are some pictures of the opening day in the "Think Big Leisure Reading Room."
Leisure Reading Room-
Our opening ceremony was a tremendous success. Once again, thank you to all that helped out in the process. On another note, this room will need to be a room that needs to be taken care of and maintained by all teachers and students. Please understand that when you leave, you and your class will need to take some time to ensure that it looks tidy and organized. Also, please make sure that you are monitoring your students in the Leisure Reading Room. We do not want any of our books or materials getting mistreated by students. We have already had one incident on the second day that could have been avoided.
PD/PLC time-
In the next week and a half, all teachers will be released for PD and PLC time. During PLC time it will be an opportunity for you to follow the cycle of inquiry and plan based on your grade level Critical Concepts and Proficiency Scales. Below is a summary of what we have learned last year about PLC and will drive your meetings.
- What do we expect our students to learn? (goals and expectations) will we know they are learning? (summative and formative assessment)
- How will we respond when they don’t learn? (Intervention)
- How will we enrich and extend the learning or student who are proficient? (GATE and above)
- How will we increase our instructional competence? (building on our own instructional capacity)
- Who will we coordinate our efforts as a school? (Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum)
Please ensure that you go to SAMS and reserve your substitute teacher. All releases will be a full day release.
