Crown Point Junior Music Academy Monday Morning Memo
Week of 4/2-4/6

I am looking forward to a great final trimester of this school year.  As we continue our professional development for the rest of the year we will be focusing on Balanced Literacy and Guided Reading.  In PLCs we will also start the process of true PLCs with your grade levels.  This will involve unpacking of the Critical Concepts, the creation of formative assessments, analyzing the data and creating and adjusting lessons and intervention for your students.
We had a great visit by our Japanese friends from Kanazawa High School. They visited the 5th grade Colonial Day and had some fun with our 4th graders.
This picture made me feel grateful for being at a wonderful school with a tremendous staff and wonderful families.  Thank you for making CPJMA a wonderful place to be.

Instructional Focus-

As always, I will refer to your weekly calendar and the Critical to guide my observations.  This will always guide my observations.

As we learn more about our focus students, I will begin to observe the support you offer your at-risk students in various sub-groups.  Please refer to the updated 17-18 Consolidated Data Spreadsheet containing trimester 2 DRA data (here is the link) for your grade level. This will serve as a tool to guide your support to students in need.  I have sent all teachers the current data to help fill in the blanks last week. Here is the link for TK-3.  Here is the link for 4th-5th.

Daily Schedules-
I will be reviewing daily schedules.  Please let me know if you have made any changes in your daily schedules.

Spring Break Attendance Challenge-

We are always trying to boost up attendance and Spring Break is a great time to do so.

•       We will be monitoring perfect attendance the week before and after Spring Break
•       Students will mark every day they are here with stickers on their attendance challenge calendar from the office
•       Tra-Viecia will pass out attendance challenge calendar this today with stickers for students to mark attendance
•       Students will start marking their calendar Monday, March 19th
•       Any student with perfect attendance during this time period will be part of the class raffle for a voucher for Boomer’s (go kart or miniature golf)
•       The raffle will be held in each respective classroom.  Teachers collect all perfect attendance sheets and select 2 winners from the class raffle
•       Teacher will pull winners’ names on Monday, April 9th
•       Office will put vouchers in teacher boxes before then
•       *****TEACHER MUST SIGN THE VOUCHER OR IT WILL BE INVALID WHEN THE STUDENT GOES TO BOOMERS

Please see Tra-Viecia or Armando if you have any questions

SART-
The Student Attendance Review Team will hold meetings all day long on Friday 4/6.  We will have a roving sub to release teachers to be part of the meeting.  Tania will contact you about the scheduling.

CONGRATULATIONS TO MR. LUCHS!!!!!-

Mr. Luchs has been nominated for and has won the VAPA

Spotlight Artistic Innovation Award.  Congratulations on one

of your many awards this year!!!

Caught Being Good/Chilling with the Principal/Line
Awards-

This information will hopefully clarify any questions about our new student recognition processes.

Caught Being Good Slips (blue)-
please continue handing these out to individual students for exhibiting our positive character traits or demonstrating any school-wide expectation.  This can be done at any location especially during transitions, recesses or assemblies.

Chilling with the Principal slips (purple)-
These will need to be distributed to students before the dates below.  You will choose 2 students with the most caught being good slips in your class for that period of time and pull 2 names as a raffle from the caught being good slips of that time frame as well.  Four total students will attend to the scheduled Chilling with the Principal event.  Please make sure that they have the purple ticket with them when they arrive to the lunch area at 1:40 promptly that day.  They will stay in the lunch area having their treat until 2:00 and they will go back to their classes.

Dates for Chilling with the Principal are below.  All times are 1:40 pm-2:00.  At 2:00, they will be sent back to class (we were having problems with the younger ones finding and being released to parents)
Friday, April 6th (due to a short month)
Friday, April 20th
Friday, May 25th
June date TBD

Line awards (yellow)-
You can hand these out to entire classes for being straight and quiet at any location of the school.  Please remember that they not only need to be straight in line on the blacktop but they need to continue to transition straight and quiet in order to keep the line award.  When your class collects 20 line awards, please bundle them with your name on them and put them into the PTO box.  They will coordinate with you when your class has a popsicle party.

As a reminder when you have duty or we go to an assembly, please bring the caught being good slips and line awards to help reinforce the positive behaviors of our school.

Window Replacement-
When we get back from Spring Break, District Maintenance will set a schedule and replace the lower three rows of windows with the darker “tinted” windows.

Once I get the schedule I will share it with you.

Because they are working during the school day, we will need to come up with a plan for your class.  On average, it takes 3 hours to finish the job and get you back in the classroom.  This means your class will be temporarily displaced to room 12 or 9 for the most part.  We can also consider other creative ideas.

I appreciate your flexibility in this situation and am gladly accepting any creative recommendations.
