Crown Point Junior Music Academy
Monday Morning Memo
Week of 1/21-1/24
When walking through classrooms, I can see and hear your shift to a focus on Learning Intentions and Success Criteria. Teachers have been clear on what kids are learning and what they need to do to be successful. Currently, the change that many teachers are moving towards is the shifting of the work onto the other students. If we want students to be able to communicate what they are learning and how they are successful, then the planning for lessons will need to be explicitly purposeful as you direct students to have those discussions.
Thank you, I truly appreciate your critical thinking as you plan for enhancing your own Teacher Clarity.
Thank you to to all that helped out in the Health Fair Expo and a special shout-out to Cathy for organizing the event!
CPJMA representing at NAMM this past weekend. If you are ever interested in attending, please let Cathy or me know.
Data Meetings/Formal Observations:
I will be scheduling data meetings with each one of you
between now and February. For this please
be cognizant of collecting work samples in a portfolio of your student
work. You will have an opportunity to
share your lessons, their learning intentions and success criteria, and the
student work that aligns with the learning intention and success critieria. More information to come!
The formal observations will be based on our strategic focus
areas below.
Safe, Inclusive, Collaborative Culture
Teacher Clarity
Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum
During the observations, I will be coming in the lens of the
ideal state of teacher clarity which we have been working on all year. My focus will not be on what the teacher
does, but what the students are doing and their overall engagement based on the
definition of the ideal state of teacher clarity below.
IDEAL STATE OF TEACHER CLARITY
1. Students will be
able to communicate (verbally, written,
demonstrate…) to you/others the learning intention
2. Students will be
able to communicate to you/others what it takes to be successful in their work
3. Students will be
able to connect the work to the learning intentions and success criteria
4. Students will be
able to self-reflect and self-assess how they performed in the task and what
they learned and communicate to you and others
