Monday Morning Memo

As ramp up for conferences, I appreciate your hard work during your PLCs with the continued focus on Tier 1 instruction with an emphasis in mathematics.  As you analyze your practice with a new lens, I am hopeful that you will see a new perspective of how number talks can be implemented in your classroom.

Congratulations to Cathy for earning the VAPA Spotlight Award!!  She was presented this award last week at the SDUSD Education Center.  This award was well deserved for all the hard work she does at communicating the great things that we do at our school on social media.

Thank you to Mr. Luchs and his violinists for representing our school on stage at Classics 4 Kids!!!! Awesome job!!!

Thank you to Mrs. Hradsky and her Choir Club for showing off their talents at the Admiral Hartman Home Expo this past Friday.  Thank you for showcasing your talents!!!

Monday Morning Memo
Week of 3/11-3/15

As the Math Student-Centered Coaching Cycle has been af focus at Crown Point, we have learned that there is a lot of crossover and a tight connection between the ELA and math Tier 1 instructional strategies.  Throughout this process, I have appreicated the teachers and students noticing those instructional connections between ELA and Math strategies.  I further appreciate teachers noticing and naming (clearly and concisely) the strategies students are using in their instruction.  It is even more powerful when hearing the students notice and name the strategies independently.  Awesome work!!!

Youtube Concern-
Some students have been heard to talk about the "MoMo Challenge" with one another. This does not appear to be wide-spread, but the content is concerning. This is an online video that challenges people to commit suicide. Throughout these videos, there is concerning language and images shown. It is unclear what students may have seen or heard about this content and this could be on a first or 2nd hand basis. In any case, we want to be proactive about reminding students to use kind, encouraging talk, and to report talk that promotes fear, threats, or negativity. If you hear of any of the MoMo talk or other negativity, please assess if you can address at the class level, and if you need additional support, please let me and Tania Ramirez, our counselor know.

Monday Morning Memo
3/4/19-3/8/19

As the beginning of the Math Coaching Cycle comes near the end, one of my favorite things to see is the growth of the students.  With diligent data collection and analysis informing instruction, we have seen students grow not only mathematically but with their language as well.  We have seen students' confidence increase while they tend to the precision of academic vocabulary and making meaning. You need to see the kids' excitement level as well during these lessons. Awesome job teachers!!!!!

It is impressive to see 2nd graders discuss with their partners unknown quantities from word problems in a variety of ways.

Thank you to teachers and parents making Dr. Seuss Week a tremendous success!!!

Data Collection has been critical to teachers in truly knowing their kids.  I appreciate the variety of ways I have seen teachers collect data to support all students.

We always try to support the school not only academically but culturally as well.  Thank you to Mrs. Toothman and her Peace Pals!
