Monday Morning Memo

Week of 1/13/20-1/17/20

As we move into the next couple of weeks, I wanted to say that I am very proud of our staff.  Increasingly, each of you has been more and more receptive to making your work public and showcasing it to parents and each other.  I am very happy to share this photo of Math Number Talks being observed by parents in our Coffee with the Principal.  As parents can and will be escorted by me into classes at any time, I am comfortable to know that I can share great things at any moment of the day.  Thank you, it does not go unnoticed.  






Data Meetings/Formal Observations:
I will be scheduling data meetings with each one of you between now and February.  For this please be cognizant of collecting work samples in a portfolio of your student work.  You will have an opportunity to share your lessons, their learning intentions and success criteria, and the student work that aligns with the learning intention and success critieria.  More information to come!

The formal observations will be based on our strategic focus areas below.

During the observations, I will be coming in the lens of the ideal state of teacher clarity which we have been working on all year.  My focus will not be on what the teacher does, but what the students are doing and their overall engagement based on the definition of the ideal state of teacher clarity below.  



IDEAL STATE OF TEACHER CLARITY

1.   Students will be able to communicate (verbally, written,
demonstrate…) to you/others the learning intention

2.    Students will be able to communicate to you/others what it takes to be successful in their work

3.    Students will be able to connect the work to the learning intentions and success criteria


4.    Students will be able to self-reflect and self-assess how they performed in the task and what they learned and communicate to you and others 

 Wellness Fair (Wednesday, 1/15/20)
We have an opportunity to showcase our school to the greater community on Wednesday for our Wellness Fair.  This also impacts everyone's sense of wellness and builds our relationship with our immediate community. Furthermore, Cindy Marten is scheduled to visit our Wellness Fair at some point.  I can't wait to share all the great things we are doing at our school with her.

 As always, we show unity and dedication as you are present during our Wellness Fair.  This is not mandatory, but a true reflection of the culture of our school.  I look forward to seeing everyone here on Wednesday.   I am hoping that each of you can sign up in the workroom for an activity with our kids.

Week of 1/6/20-1/10/20

Welcome back from Winter Break!  I hope you spent some quality time with your family and friends.  As you have recharged and we are now in 2020,  we still have our focus on a safe, inclusive, collaborative culture, teacher clarity, and a guaranteed and viable curriculum.  We will continue to learn more strategies and take a deeper look into these three concepts between now and the end of the year.

Before we went on break, you may have noticed some parents and staff talking with students at lunch. They are part of our new Kids for Peace Program sharing topics on how to ensure that we continue to have a safe, inclusive, and collaborative culture.  One of the next projects they are working on is the Kindness Challenge Week.  More details to come!

I was reviewing data and I noticed missing data from large groups of students and individual students.  It is expected that all data needs to have been input before report cards and conferences were completed.  Please let me know if you had technical errors or anything else from stopping you from inputting all of your student’s information into our system.
