Monday Morning Memo
Week of 9/30-10/4

We are now moving into the second month of school and to maximize your instruction, smooth systems should be in place at this point. As important as the systems in place in your classrooms, your approaches to having a safe, collaborative, inclusive classroom are equally important.  with all the hard work you put in, I appreciate your on-going efforts to not only create, but maintain the safe, collaborative, and inclusive environment

Instructional Focus-

As developed with ILT and shared with all staff, our strategic plan focuses on three main areas.

  • A safe, collaborative, inclusive environment
  • High-quality GVC
  • Teacher Clarity

Please be prepared to share with your colleagues and me in PLC how you create a safe, inclusive environment. Please be prepared to answer the questions below and to share with your colleagues.

  • Some of the questions you can expect are as follows:
  • How do you create collaborative partnerships with your students?
  • How do you create deep connections with all students?
  • What is your definition of a deep connection with your students?
  • What is your definition of team building for your students?
  • What specific activities do you plan to go beyond developing superficial relationships?
  • As I continue my instructional visits, please be prepared to not only receive feedback on instruction but your efforts to create a safe inclusive environment.

Recess Duty Schedule Update-
We have updated the recess schedule and we believe that it should work for the rest of the year.  I have given each of you hardcopies and here is a link to the same information. Here is the new updated link (the other one has been deleted).

Field Trip Permission Slips-
Please make sure all field trip permission slips have the student’s name (legibly) and parent signature on all forms.  We have had legal implications from years ago due to this issue.

Annual Notifications-
You will have time to complete your Annual Notifications during your prep week.  The official due Date-Friday, October 4th.

Beachfest-
Our school will be represented by Music Club on stage at 11:00 on the community stage.  It is on the boardwalk next to Tower 23 (Felspar).  We also need school representatives to help out in our booth.  Cathy will contact you to check of you can make it for some portion of the day.

Lates/Tardies
Please ensure that you continue to adjust your attendance as students bring in their late cards to you.  We appreciate your help in this matter.

FAST Assessing (2nd-5th Grade)

You should have completed the assessment at this point.  I will base some of our conversations around this data.

School Tours- As a reminder at any point during the school week we may be giving a school tour

Monday Morning Memo
Week of 9/23-9/27

As the beginning of the year continues, we are now getting back into professional development and PLCs.  I truly believe that each of you has had tremendous success in the last two years due to your clarity in your learning targets that you have posted and referred to on a regular basis.  I will continue to share with other staff examples of clear learning targets as seen below.  Thank you for your emphasis on implementing learning targets visually and verbally.  This practice is highly effective and will yield success in your classroom.  When you assess your own implementation of learning targets, ask your students what they are learning.  True teacher clarity lays in the students' clear connection between their work and the learning target.
