As I continue to observe Guided Reading, I appreciate you pushing your students in their thinking.  I notice clarity in the teaching points, the multiple references to the teaching points and giving purpose to students when they are learning strategies to apply in their reading.  I also appreciate the diligent data collection when are working with your students.  

Superintendent Visit-

As we all know Cindy Marten will be visiting on Monday, 2/4/19.  When we visit classrooms, she will be going through with the lens of the following:

• Tier 1- Effective practices demonstrated in your instruction.
• Guided Reading-I will talk to some of you about the scheduling of your Guided Reading.  I plan on showcasing the work we have done.
• Focus Students-EL/Socio-Economically Disadvantaged-Be prepared to discuss what you do to support the focus students you have decided on.  From individual goals, small group and simply knowing your at-risk students, Please plan on conversations revolving around them. 

Instructional Focus-

I will be continuing to observe Tier1 instructional practices throughout the next couple of weeks.  I will also be collecting data on Guided Reading.  At this point, your daily/weekly schedule has been updated to ensure that I come in the appropriate time frame for guided reading.

1/21-1/25

As we continue to hone our skills in Tier 1 instruction (general Tier 1 and Guided Reading), I will begin more data collection and data sweeps based on your implementation of the effective practices.  When you are released for your full-day PLC release, you will have conversations with your ILT lead about the "Look Fors" in both Tier 1 general instructional strategies and Guided Reading.  This is to ensure that you can transfer your learning of effective practices of Tier 1 and Guided Reading instruction to your day-to-day instruction (application).

Below is an image of 1st grade Integrated ELD during math time. When I observed the instruction the students in the group were based on the data on English Learners that I sent you.
