Crown Point Junior Music Academy
Monday Morning Memo
10/1-10/5

While we are in the midst of change with reorganization,  consistent routines and structures, strong student engagement, and teacher clarity will assist in adjusting to your new students.  Equally important is creating a tight positive culture with your class. Please take some time to create opportunities to develop new relationships with your current and new students.

College Spirit Fridays-
We are hoping that staff can join in College Spirit Fridays by wearing your favorite college or university shirt.  More information to come from Mrs. Zittle. Once you get that information please share and encourage College Spirit Fridays with your students!

Reorganization-
Thank you for all of your hard work during this challenging time.  Friday night, I sent a phone and email message to parents of those students who have changed classes in this process.  If parents for some reason claim that they have not been informed about any change, please send them to the office for clarity.  Monday will be the first day of our full rotation.  Please contact the office or me directly if you have any challenges or need some clarification.

Formative Assessment/Data Collection/Informing Instruction-
As we move forward, please start collecting your formative assessments aligned to the Critical Concepts/Proficiency Scales, your data based on your students’ performance, and be prepared to discuss how your data impacted your instruction.  I understand your roster has changed significantly.  It is absolutely appropriate to share with me your data before the reorganization.

Professional Development/PLC/Prep-
Due to the reorganization, we will continue with prep this Wednesday.  Please be prepared to be engaged in a professional development the following Wednesday (10/10/18). I also need to revisit and review the best configurations for PLC in the next 2-3 weeks.  You will be released for either a half day or full day.

Monday Morning Memo
9/24-9/28

As we focus on Tier I instructional best practices I am happy to see many highly effective strategies being used daily in your classrooms.  Also considered highly effective is your physical environment.  At this point, all classrooms should have focus wall posted as well as student work.  The physical environment will be part of our trainings and we will be doing a school-wide gallery walk of every teachers' physical environment soon.

Below is a picture of Number Talks in a Kinder classroom.

Below is a sample of a focus wall in a 1st grade classroom.

College Spirit Fridays-
We are hoping that staff can join in College Spirit Fridays by wearing your favorite college or university shirt.  More information to come from Mrs. Zittle. Once you get that information please share and encourage College Spirit Fridays with your students!

Welcome Back Red Packets (folders)
Please encourage your students to have everything turned in by September 24th.  If 100% of all the forms are turned in, I have been told by the office staff that I will be dying my hair a bright color and Mary Schlagle will be styling it as well.

Enrollment-
We are still low on enrollment.  We have approximately 313 students as of Wednesday, 9/12/18 (more students have dropped since last week).  We finished the school year with 355 last year and with overall enrollment across the district declining, they predicted 348 (I believed it was 344 last week and it is corrected now) putting us short currently by 35 students.  We will continue to review the enrollment and I will share with you any decision when it is made.

Caught Being Good Slips (blue)-
Please continue handing these out to individual students for exhibiting our positive character traits or demonstrating any school-wide expectation.  This can be done at any location especially during transitions, recesses or assemblies.

Chilling with the Principal slips (purple)-
These will need to be distributed to students before the dates below.  You will choose 2 students with the most caught being good slips in your class for that period of time and pull 2 names as a raffle from the caught being good slips of that time frame as well.  Four total students will attend to the scheduled Chilling with the Principal event.  Please make sure that they have the purple ticket with them when they arrive at the lunch area at 1:40 promptly that day.  They will stay in the lunch area having their treat until 2:00 and they will go back to their classes.

Dates for Chilling with the Principal (See below)-
All times are 1:40 pm-2:00 and will be on Thursdays.  At 2:00, they will be sent back to class (we were having problems with the younger ones finding and being released to parents)

Crown Point Junior Music Academy
Monday Morning Memo
9/17-9/21

As we move into our third week of school, teachers have been training and teaching students about what it means to meet the expectations of the school.  Below are some examples and non-examples of meeting the expectations of the library.  I am using pictures such as these in my presentation when I present to grade levels soon.  I will seek out teachers to schedule the presentations.

Back to School Night-
Back to School Night is Wednesday, September 19th, 2018 from 5:15-6:30 pm.  I will start and have a meeting with parents in the auditorium from 5:15-5:30.  The first rotation in classrooms will be starting at 5:30. I will ring a bell and start the second rotation at 6:00 ending at 6:30 pm.

Beachfest-
Beachfest is Saturday, October 6th.  We are in need of volunteers to share information about our school at a table.  With declining enrollment, this is a great way to advertise and market our school.  Please see Cathy to sign up.

Student Parent Handbook Signature Page-
I am asking that all teachers collect the signature page and hold on to the class set until I come and collect your complete class set in three weeks (9/21/18)

Weekly Schedule-
As a reminder, your weekly schedule due date has been postponed indefinitely.  Once we find out about PLAY PE and cross-reference violin, you can adjust your schedule accordingly.  From that point, I will create a new due date.  All other items discussed in the Prep-day meeting still need to be turned in based on the deadlines.
